A Leader with
Noble Intentions and Purpose
“As the race for General President begins today, October 1, with the Mississippi District Conference being the first of the campaign cycle, I greet you as the Immediate Past Mississippi District Director. If I may offer, the General President has a handful of clearly defined duties in Alpha Phi Alpha’s Constitution and By-Laws, but he has no affirmative responsibility to lead Alpha to address its most challenging issues. And over the years, I have known General Presidential candidates who have openly noted that they did not see their role, if elected, as leading Alpha to address any specific issues. General Presidential candidates are entitled to view their role, if elected, as largely ceremonial.
However, brothers are entitled to look for and support candidates who seek to use their influence as General President, if elected, to lead Alpha to do transformative work on the issues that matter. Our brother, my friend, Brother Gregory Parks will be such a transformative leader—bringing leaders and experts together to work for the common good. I am ready for that type of leadership; please join me in electing Brother Gregory Parks as the 37th General President.”
